SIM Dragon Boat Team made our way north to Penang Malaysia to compete in the annual Pesta Dragon Boat Competition 2007. For most of us it was a tough decision to go ahead and take part in the competition. But in the end, together as a team, we have decided to press on despite of the recent tragic even that shocked the dragon boat community.

For some of us, the aim of this event was to recapture the experiences of last year’s Penang Pesta as well as a tribute race. And as for the rest of the team; it was an opportunity to experience our first overseas race. Overall, one of the more important objectives is to spearhead confidence back into the sport in spite of all the recent criticisms.

As a whole, the SIM dragons has gained valuable experiences of overseas dragon boat racing and establish many fond memories that will both strengthen the bond of the team and makes us even stronger as a team as well as individuals.

The year ended in a high with a bonus as SIM Dragons managed to clinch the winning bronze medal in the Men Open and silver medal in the Mixed Race. And finally our long awaited twelve crew ladies medal ‘Bronze’.

On behalf of the team, I would like to express my thanks to the following.

Many thanks to our external paddlers, who have been so much a part of our SIM Dragons family. We are glad to have you with us and will always welcome you back with open arms.

Gary and the SCS team who have given us tremendous support right from the beginning. Thank you all for truly believing in us and sharing our passion for the team to reach greater heights. And also, last but not least, thank you for going the extra mile to comfort and protect us in times of need. We are truly grateful.

Mr Sin Teck for taking your time off to join us for this overseas trip. It was a very good event for the team to get to know you better and it’s comforting to know that with your experience and guidance, we were in good hands.

To our two very loyal and committed friends who have just recently graduated, Jason and Kent have officially rowed their last race with SIM Dragons. It would now be awkward not to see you guys as our front pack for the days to come. We wish you all the best in the army.

Last but not least, Terence aka ‘The Law’ who has over the past two years played such a vital role contributing to the successes of the team. Relentlessly putting in so much effort and attention to nature and build the team. Always pushing our limits for each and every training that eventually brought us to greater heights.

Yours truly,

Aaron Ang (Cap III)
